Cricket News sort by India Vs Australia 3rd Test at Mohali - Mar 14-18, 2013

India may have won the third Test against Australia at Mohali, but one aspect of their game, which is repeating itself with alarming regularity, was on show again on Day four of the Test. India collapsed from a seemingly impregnable position...

When India went into bat in their first innings, at the stroke of lunch at day three, a draw seemed the most likely result. Day one of the Test had been completely washed out due to rain, and Australia came up with their most competent batting performance of the series to notch up an impressive score of 408 batting first.

India pulled off a tremendous victory by 6 wickets in the Mohali Test despite the entire opening day’s play washed out. Needing 133 to win in about 33 overs, India got to the target steadily in the last hour.

It must be that the Indian selectors were holding back Shikhar Dhawan so that they could put him into the mix at the right time -- like an army would withhold a secret weapon so as to unleash it when it is likely to inflict maximum damage.

Australia are in the danger of losing the Third Test at Mohali after losing three top order wickets in 21 overs before stumps on Day 4. The visitors were jolted by Bhuvneshwar Kumar who used both conventional and reverse swing to take all the three wickets to fall to give India hopes of a victory.

Those who witnessed Shikhar Dhawan’s debut ton on day three of the Mohali Test at the ground or even on their television sets would have been bamboozled for sure. Most would have asked themselves only one question..

Shikhar Dhawan scored a scintillating 185* on Test debut as India smashed 283 for no loss in just 58 overs in reply to Australia’s first innings total of 408 on Day 3 of the 3rd Test at Mohali.

India bowled out as many as 104 overs in six and a half hours to restrict the Aussies to 273 for 7. This was despite the tourists getting a strong opening stand of 139! It was a dramatic collapse for the Aussies – losing two wickets in two balls on two occasions in the day’s play. The match is now nicely in the favour of an Indian victory although the first day’s play was completely washed out.

As India and Australia get set to battle at Mohali, we look back at India’s impressive record at the PCA Stadium in Mohali. Starting with the first Test in 1994, India have played 10 games at the venue, out of which they have won four and lost only one while drawing five others.
